The Antiracist Prenatal and Postnatal Care Preferences

The Antiracist Prenatal and Postnatal Care Preferences were co-created by Erica Chidi and Dr. Cahill to protect Black birthing women and people.

They were designed to lessen the burden on Black women and build the groundwork for difficult but potentially life-preserving conversations with their care providers.

These preferences are an intersectional attempt to directly respond to the fact that Black women in America are three times more likely to die during pregnancy or childbirth than their white peers, regardless of factors like higher education and financial means.

These preferences were first cited in the New York Times article, “Protecting Your Birth: A Guide For Black Mothers."

Erica Chidi is co-founder and CEO of LOOM and Dr. Erica Cahill is a LOOM advisor and a clinical assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stanford University.

LOOM is a wellbeing platform empowering women through sexual and reproductive health education.
